Srinagar, Apr 02 (KNO): The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Valley with rest of the world remained closed due to fresh landslides, for seventh consecutive day on Thursday. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), "The highway was closed for seventh consecutive day today due to the fresh landslides, shooting stones triggered by rains," an official said. “The road has been cleared and all the stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards Srinagar first by evening.” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Traffic J&K, T Namgyal , he said that efforts are underway to restore the highway. “Hopefully it will be restored by evening from Jammu towards Srinagar". "Vehicles carrying medical supplies were never stopped, whatever stock we had, we sent them to Kashmir through alternate routes, and today we will be able to run the Traffic" IG added. Almost 1900 of vehicles, mostly trucks are stranded at Nagrota, Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal areas on the highway and at various places of the highway. He said. He added that no traffic has been allowed from last 6 days either towards the Jammu or Srinagar side due to the fresh landslides, expect the vehicles which were carrying essential medical supplies—(KNO)
